Her father died in Bridgend in 1892 and her mother married John Wright in 1900.

In the 1901 census as Lizzie A Rees aged 13, born in Cadoxton, Barry, Glamorgan, Wales and living with her (step)father (John Wright) and mother (Jane Wright) at 9 Kenilworth Road, Barry, Glamorgan.

Her stepfather died at 7 Kenilworth Road on 7 March 1906.

However he signed onto the SS Dromore in New York which sailed to Glasgow via Philadelphia on 18 September 1924.
