He had previous applied for military service in 1911? in Manchester, but had been rejected for bad teeth. He attested on 3 September 1914 for the Welsh Regiment 15715 at Barry Dock height 5 ft 6.5 inches, weight 140 ils, chest 38.5+3 inches, had good physical development, pulse 68 per min.,, 6/6 vision and passed fit, but was dischaged on 7 October 1914 from Parkhouse Camp Salisbury with defective teeth and sight aged 24, height 5 ft 8 inches, weight 134 lbs and chest 35+1 inch.
