Copy of Entry of Birth 430 in Knaresborough : Birth of William Clemishaw Leslie on 30th January 1871 at Finkle Street, Knaresbro to William Duncan Leslie and Annie Leslie formerly Clemishaw. His father was the informant, and was a wine and spirit merchant at Castlegate, Knaresborough (Annie's parents did not want their grandson born in a pub,and so they arranged for the birth to happen elsewhere). The birth was registered on 18 February 1871.

In the 1871 census as William Clemishaw Leslie aged 2 months, born in Knaresborough and living with his parents (William Duncan and Annie), sister (Annie Brown), and a servant (Fanny Bentley aged 31, born in Knaresborough and unmarried) at The Castle Inn, Knaresborough, Yorkshire.

His father died at 5am on 14 January 1881 at 116 Market Street, St Andrews, and was buried on 16 January 1881 St. Andrews, Fife, Scotland.

In the 1891 census as William C Leslie aged 28 (in the index - the original is nearly illegible but should be 20), born in Knaresborough, employed as an apprentice watchmaker, and living with his uncle and aunt John T and Mary J Clemishaw (Cleninishaw in the index), their son (William), his cousin John W Atkinson (Watkinson in the index) and a lodger (Reginald B Ford aged 26?, born in Melbourne, Australia, single, and employed as a Stationers Traveller) at 25 Hillary Street, Leeds, Yorkshire.

Marriage of William Clemishaw Leslie to Annie Elizabeth Foster in FreeBMD in October-December in Bramley District (9B 601). From a copy of his marriage certificate William Clemishaw Leslie aged 23, a bachelor, employed as a watchmaker and living at Holly Farm, Bressingby (I assume just west of Bridlington) married Annie Elizabeth Foster on 19 December 1894 at the New Baptist Chapel, Bramley, Yorkshire. His father, William Duncan Leslie was a hair dresser and deceased. The marriage was witnessed by Joseph Foster, Vinnie Foster, Clara Wilson and one other.

His son as born on 24 October 1895 and registered in October-December 1895 in Bramley.

His daughter was born on 18 May 1897 in Armley, and registered in July-September 1897 in Bramley.

They lived at 184 Tong Road, Leeds between 1897-1899 when he was apprenticed as a watchmaker at Potts in Leeds.

In the 1901 census aged 30, born in Knaresbro, Yorkshire, employed as a jeweller's manager, and living with his wife (Annie E), son (Alex D) and daughter (Phyllis M) at 28 Minton Avenue, Eccles, Lancashire.

His son was born on 11 December 1902 in Blackpool, and registered in January-March 1903 in Fylde.

Death of William C Leslie in FreeBMD in January-March 1945 aged 74 in Blackpool (8E 892). On a Copy of Entry of Death Number 361 1945 in Blackpool North subdistrict, of William Clemishaw Leslie died on 25 March 1945 aged 74 of a coronary thrombosis at 8 Pelham Avenue. He was employed as a fancy goods dealer. His son, Joseph Leslie, was the informant.

Buried at Carleton Cemetery, Blackpool in plot E 490 which was purchased by his wife for her heirs and assigns. In gold on black granite:

He won a prize, a silver cigar box, in a shooting compitition at Bisley, Surrey, date unknown, which was stolen in 2019 according to David Duncan Leslie.
