Entry in FamilyHistoryOnline for the birth and christening of James Absalom in 1836 at Hood Street Methodist, Newcastle states that his father, David Absalom was a cordwainer born in All Saints, Newcastle. A cordwainer is a leather worker.

In the 1841 census as David Absalom, aged 40 (rounded down to a multiple of 5), born in Northumberland, employed as a labourer, and living with Susan (wife?), Christopher, David, James and John (sons?) at Smith's Ropery, All Saints, Byker, Northumberland.

Entry in the 1851 census for David Absalom aged 46 (sic - 51 would be correct), born in Earsdon, Northumberland, employed as a master shoe maker, and living with his wife (Susannah), five sons (Christopher, David, John, Matthew and Thomas) and daughter (Susannah) at Wapping, Longbenton, Northumberland.This is the only reference I can find to Thomas, and I cannot find James in this census so I assume that they are the same person.

Entry in the 1861 census as David Absolend (sic - in the index where all the other relatives are spelt Absoland) aged 55 (sic - 61 would be more accurate), born in Blyth, Northumberland, employed as a master shoe maker, and living with his wife (Susannah Absoland), six sons (Christopher, David, James, Matthew, Robert and William) and three daughters (Elizabeth, Margaret and Susannah) at West Cramington, Northumberland.

Death of David Absalom in FreeBMD in October-December 1870 aged 70 in the Tynemouth District (10b 131) which included Cramlington.

From Denis Heydecker in Ancestry David Absalom was born 8 June 1800 in Earsdon, Northumberland, married Susanna(h) Lowther on 2 December 1833 in Earsdon, and died 1870 in West Cramlington, Northumberland. They had ten children born in Blyth, Longbenton, Newcastle-upon-Tyne, Byker, Wapping, Bedlington, Benton Square, and West Cramlington.

Relationship

David Absalom was the grandfather of Susannah Emily Absalom, the wife of George Fullick, my third cousin twice removed.
