Entry in FamilyHistoryOnline Northumberland Baptisms for John Absolam on 28 December 1834 in Earsdon, parents David and Susanna Absolam.
In the 1841 census as John Absalom, aged 7, born in Northumberland, and living with David and Susan (parents?), and Christopher, David, and James (brothers?) at Smith's Ropery, All Saints, Byker, Norhumberland.
In the 1851 census as John Absalom aged 16, born in Earsdon, Northumberland, employed as a coalminer putter, and living with his parents (David and Susannah), four brothers (Christopher, David, Matthew and Thomas) and sister (Susannah) at Wapping, Longbenton, Northumberland. This is the only reference I can find to Thomas, and I cannot find James in this census so I assume that they are the same person.
In the 1861 census as John Absolam (sic - on original as well as in the index) aged 27, born in Blyth, married (was this correct?), I assume employed as a coal miner although the entry is not very precise indicating that all the family were, and lodging with Johnathan Ramsay (aged 28, born in Coxlodge, Northumberland and employed as a coal miner), his wife (Jane aged 39 and born in Robsdon, Northumberland), their three sons (John aged 12, Robert aged 10 and William S aged 6, all born in Robsdon) and a daughter (Jane Ann aged 4 and born in Cramlington) at Olivers? Buildings, Glebe Row, Bedlington, Northumberland.
I cannot find an entry in the 1871 census so I assume he emigrated to Australia between 1861 and 1871.
Denis Heydecker in Ancestry states John Henry Absalom was born in 1835 in Blyth, Northumberland, parents David Absalom and Susanna(h) Lowther, married Charlotte Knowles (Lister) McGinnis in 1873, had eight children and died in 1899. Peg Rampling has similar information on Ancestry, but gives his name as John Absalom born c1834, and his wife as Charlotte Knowles Lister.
I cannot find an entry in the 1871 census so I assume he emigrated to Australia between 1861 and 1871.
John Henry Absalom was the father of Susannah Emily Absalom, the wife of George Fullick, my third cousin twice removed.
