Her son was registered in July-September 1867 in Strand, and baptised on 15 September 1867 at St Paul, Covent Garden when they were living in Cecil Street.
In the 1871 census as Elizabeth Matthews aged 41, born in Churton (sic - in the index, Churt on the original), Surrey, and living with her husband (John), four sons (Albert E, Charles J, James H and William A), daughter (Emily A) and a servant (Jane G Neil aged 16 and born in Bloomsbury, Middlesex) at 3 Craven Street Charing Cross, St Martin in the Fields, London. Two other families shared the same address.
Her husband resigned from the police on 22 April 1876.
