Clara had a son Matthew Henry Croucher before her marriage according to the IGI, but no father is given. From the simularity of the name I assume it is his.
Clara Croucher and Harry Matthews were witnesses at the marriage of her brother John and Elizabeth Baker in Frensham in 1859.
<I cannot locate any reference to her marriage.
Her son was born on 26 June 1854, registered in April-June 1854 in St. Martin in the Fields and baptised on 3 September 1854 at St Martin in the Fields, Westminster when they were living at 3 White Hart Street.
Her son was born on 10 September 1855, registered in October-December 1855 in St. Martin in the Fields, and baptised on 21 October 1855 at St. Martin in the Fields when they were living at 9 Cross Street.
Her daughter was born on 18 February 1857, registered in January-March 1857 in Strand, and baptised on 3 May 1857 at St Paul Covent Garden, mother Elizabeth Croucher Matthews, when they were living at 38 Hart Street.
His son was born on 5 January 1859, registered in January-March 1859 in Strand, and baptised on 13 March at St Paul, Covent Garden when he was a policeman of 38 Carey Street, St Clement Danes.
His son was registered in January-March 1861 in St Giles.
In the 1861 census as Elizabeth Mathews (sic - on the original) aged 30, born in Frensham, Surrey, and living with her husband (John), four sons (Charles J, George T, James H and William L), daughter (Elizabeth A) and a servant (Ann Lomax aged 63, born in St Giles, London and widowed) at 14 Great Wild Street, St Giles, Middlesex.
His son's death was registered in July-September 1862 in Strand.
His daughter was born on 24 May 1865 and baptised on 6 August 1865 at St Paul, Covent Garden when he was a policeman of Bow Street. I cannot locate a registration of birth and in censuses was born in St Martin in the Fields, Middlesex.
His son was registered in July-September 1867 in Strand, and baptised on 15 September 1867 at St Paul, Covent Garden when he was a policemanm of Cecil Street.
In the 1871 census as Elizabeth Matthews aged 41, born in Churton (sic - in the index, Churt on the original), Surrey, and living with her husband (John), four sons (Albert E, Charles J, James H and William A), daughter (Emily A) and a servant (Jane G Neil aged 16 and born in Bloomsbury, Middlesex) at 3 Craven Street Charing Cross, St Martin in the Fields, London. Two other families shared the same address.
Her husband resigned from the police on 22 April 1876.
In the 1881 census as Elizabeth Mathews (sic - on the original) aged 51, born in Churt, Surrey, and living with her husband (John), son (Albert E) and daughter (Emily A) at the Royal Oak, Holt Road, Farnham, Surrey.
