"Marriages solemnized in the Parish of Farnham in the County of Surrey in the Year 1836 William Adams of this Parish Bachelor and Hannah Winden (could be Vinden) of this Parish Spinster were married in this church by banns with Consent this Niniteenth Day of September in the Year One thousand eight hundred and thirty eight [...] This Marriage was solemnized by us (William signed, Hannah made her mark) In the Presence of William Winden (Vinden?)" who made his mark and one other.

His son and two daughters were born at Hungry Hill, Farnham in 1837 to 1840, his occupation being a shoe make in the christening entries for his daughters.

In the 1841 census as William Adams aged 22, born in Surrey, a shoe M. and living with Hannah (wife?), George (son?), Eliza and Sarah (daughters?), William and Ruth Vindon (parents-in-law?) and Richard Vindon (brother-in-law?) at Hungry Hill, Farnham, Surrey. Another family was living at the same address.

His two daughters were born in Hale in 1844 and 1846, his occupation being shoe maker and third in St George the Martyr in 1849, but christened in Lambeth, his occupation being a lamp lighter.

In the 1851 census as William Adams aged 34, born in Farnham, Surrey, a gas lighter, and living with his wife (Hannah), son (George), and five daughters (Eliza, Elizabeth, Emma, Jane and Sarah) at 2 Bedford Court, St George the Martyr, Middlesex. Four other families lived at this address. The ages of Eliza and George appear to have been the wrong way round.

In the 1861 census as William Adams aged 44, born in Farnham, Surrey, a gas lighter, and living with his wife (Hannah), daughter (Jane), and an orphan (Emily Halfacre aged 9 and born in St George the Martyr, Middlesex) at 9 Bedford Court, St George the Martyr, Holborn, Middlesex.

He was a witness at his daughter Sarah's wedding at St John the Evangelist, Lambeth in 1863.

In the 1871 census census as William Adams aged 54, born in Farnham, Surrey, a gas lighter, and living with his wife (Hannah) at 9 Bedford Court, St George the Martyr, London. His married daughter Jane Collins, son-in-law and granddaughter were living at the same address.

In the 1881 census as William Adams aged 67, born in Farnham, Surrey, a bootmaker, and living with his wife (Hannah), married daughter (Jane Collins), grandson (John W Collins), granddaughter (Alice J Collins) and a visitor (Ellen Hays aged 36, born in Lee, no married status and no stated employment) at 9 Bedford Court, St George the Martyr, London.
