Marriage of Matthew Haycroyd (sic - in the typed index, the original handwritten one is no longer available) and Elizabeth Clemishaw in FreeBMD in January-March 1839 in Knaresborough (23 225). Ian Ackroyd has sent me an email giving the following information from the copy of the entry of marriage: On the 14 January 1839 at the parish church of Knaresborough Mathew Ackroyd married Elizabeth Clemishaw. He was of full age, a bachelor residing in Knaresborough and employed as a servant, and his father was Thomas Ackroyd employed as a labourer. The marriage was witnessed by David Clemishaw and Mary Hawksby.
In the 1841 census as Matthew Hackroyd (sic) aged 25 (rounded down to a multiple of 5), born in Yorkshire, employed as a labourer, and living with Elizabeth (wife?) and Hannah (Daughter?) in or around the High Street, Knaresborough, Yorkshire.
In the 1851 census as Matthew Ackroyd aged 39, born in Kirby Mills, Yorkshire, employed as a costler/jockey, and living with his wife (Elizabeth), three sons (David, Thomas and William) and daughter (Hannah) at Calverleys Yard, Knaresborough.

His wife is a widow in the 1861 census which is the source for the children born from Matthew onwards.
Kirby Moorside and Kirby Mills are 1 mile apart on the A170, 8 miles west of Pickering.
Matthew Ackroyd was the husband of Felicity's second great grandaunt, Elizabeth Clemishaw.
