In the 1851 census as William Ackroyd aged 1, born in Knaresbro, Yorkshire, and living with his parents (Matthew and Elizabeth), two brothers (David and Thomas) and sister (Hannah) at Calverleys Yard, Knaresborough.

His father died in 1857.

In the 1861 census as William Ackroyd, aged 11, born in Knaresborough, and living with his widowed mother (Elizebeth - sic), brother (Mathew) and three sisters (Elizebeth (sic) Ann, Hannah and Sarah Jane) at Calverleys Yard, Knaresborough.

In the 1871 census as William Ackroyd aged 21, born in Knaresborough, unmarried, employed as a tailor and boarding with George Dodd (aged 24, born in Boston, Yorkshire and employed as a tailor), his wife (Eliza aged 25 and born in Leeds), two sons (Geo Arthur aged 6 months and Thomas aged 3 both born in Leeds), George's brother (Henry Dadd aged 8 and born in Knaresbrough) and two other boarders (Naomi and Sarah Chapel aged 18 and 16, born in Leeds and employed as factory girls) at 7 Lobley Court, SE Leeds, Yorkshire.

In the 1881 census as William Ackroyd aged 31, born in Knaresbro, employed as a tailor, and living with his wife (Mary Ann), and two sons (Matthew and Thomas) at 24 Mill Street, SE Leeds.

In the 1891 census as William Ackroyd aged 40, born in Knaresborough, employed as a tailor and living with his wife ( Mary Ann), four sons (David, Matthew, Thomas and William H) and daughter (Lilly) in two rooms at 24 Mill Street, SE Leeds, Yorkshire.

In the 1901 census as William Ackroyd aged 52, born in Kuarisbrough (sic), employed as a tailor and living with his wife (Mary Ann), three sons (David, Matthew and Thomas) and daughter (Lily) in 3 rooms at 7 Cotton Street, SE Leeds.

I cannot identify the surname of his wife as entries in earlier censuses show it could be either Myers or Tailor. She was born in about 1855 in Leeds and died after 1901.
