An email from Ian Ackroyd states that the copy of the entry of birth for Thomas Ackroyd gives his birth on 27 May 1847 at Clark's Yard, High Street, Knaresborough, eparents Matthew Ackroyd and Elizabeth Ackroyd formerly Clemishaw.
In the 1851 census as Thomas Ackroyd aged 4, born in Knaresbro, Yorkshire, and living with his parents (Matthew and Elizabeth), two brothers (David and William) and sister (Hannah) at Calverleys Yard, Knaresborough.
His father died in 1857.
I cannot find a definate entry in the 1861 census but there is an entry for Thomas Ackroyd aged 16, born in Fenensby (sic - Ferrensby where his mother was born? - I cannot find any other reference to a Thomas Ackroyd born there), employed as a farm servant, and living with James P Gowland (aged 42, born in Newton Rose, Yorkshire and a farmer of 254 (acres?) employing 5 labourers), his wife (Mary A aged 41 and born in in Wilton, Yorkshire), their 4 children (John aged 5, Richard aged 7, Elizabeth aged 3 and Mary J aged 6, all born in Thorp Woods), a boarder (Jane Lotherington aged 36, born in Balonen, Yorkshire, unmarried, no stated employment and sister of Mary A), three other farm servants (Richard Benson aged 16, Thomas Dawson aged 22, and John Jackson aged 22) and a house servant ( at Charlotte Cundall aged 15) at ? Lodge, Thorpe Underwoods, Yorkshire (9 miles east of Knaresborough).
I cannot find an entry in the 1871 census.

Wager aged 21, born in Scotland, single and employed as a cloth presser) in Waddington Row, Upper Wortley, Wortley in Bramley,Yorkshire.
In the 1891 census as Thomas Ackroyd aged 43, born in Knaresborough, employed as a carrier, and living with his wife (Mary J), two sons (George H and Thos W), four daughters (Elizth E, Jane A, Rose A and Sarah E) and a step daughter (Ada Hullah) in four rooms at 2 Spark Street, Leeds.
In the 1901 census as Thomas Ackroyd aged 53, born in Knaresborough, employed as a general labourer, and living with his wife (Mary J), two sons (George H and Walter), three daughters (Esther (sic - I assume Elizabeth), Nelly and Rose A) and two boarders (Fred Winder aged 45, born in Leeds, a widower and employed as a comb maker (wool) and Joseph Winder aged 18, born in Bradford, single and employed as a turner (mechanical fitter) at 31 New Park Street, Leeds.
