In the 1851 census as Joseph Young aged 52, born in Southwick, Sussex, a farm labourer, and living with his wife (Mary), two sons (John and Joseph), three daughters (Ann, Elizabeth and Mary), a granddaughter (Ann) and a vistor (Charles Naye aged 22, born in Henfield, Sussex, single and a farm labourer) at Green, Southwick, Sussex.
