Notes

Christening of William Young in the IGI on 4 July 1802 in Southwick, Sussex, parents Joseph and Martha Young.

Marriage of William Young and Mary Harlote in the IGI on 4 June 1826 in Brighton, Sussex. The same information is in Sussex Family History Group Sussex Marriage Index adding he was a bachelor and she a spinster both of this parish, and it was by banns.

In the 1841 census as William Young aged 35, born in Sussex, a shoe m(aker) and living with Mary (wife?), Abraham and William (sons?), and Eliza, Jane and Mary (daughters?) in Church Street, Southwick, Sussex.

In the 1851 census as William Young aged 48, born in Southwick, Sussex, a shoe maker and living with his wife (Mary), two sons (Abraham and George), and three daughters (Eliza, Emma and Mary) in Church Street, Southwick, Sussex.

In the 1861 census as Joseph Young aged 62, born in Southwick, Sussex, an agricultural labourer, and living with his wife (Mary), and granddaughter (Mary), at Southwick Green, Southwick, Sussex.

In the 1861 census as William Young aged 58, born in Southwick, Sussex, a shoemaker and living with his wife (Mary), two sons (Abraham and William) and daughter (Emma) in Albion Street, Steyning, Sussex. I cannot find an entry in the 1871 census and there are two possible deaths for William Young in Steyning in 1868 - January-March (2b 164) aged 69 and July-September (2b 157) aged 66 (I suspect this was William, the husband of his sister Sarah). I can only find one possible entry for his wife Mary in January-March 1882 aged 76, but I cannot find her in the census either. There is also an entry for the death of William Edward Young in January-March 1879 aged 76 in Steyning (2b 187).

There is an entry in Ancestry Public Member Trees for William Edward Young born in 1802 in Southwick, married to Mary Young, a daughter Eliza born 1838, and who died in Southwick in 1879. There is another entry for William Young born in 1806 in Sussex, his marriage to Mary, the seven children although there are large discrepencies in their dates of birth due to the data being taken from the 1841 census.
