In the 1851 census as Mary Waterhouse, aged 5, born in Armley, and living with her parents (Matthew and Frances), brother (Benjamin) and four sisters (Ann, Emma, Elizabeth and Grace), at Moor, Armley. She is also on the Calverley Census.

In the 1861 census as Mary Ann Waterhouse aged 16, born in Armley, employed as a yarn reeler, and living with her parents (Matthew and Frances), two brothers (Benjamin and Matthew), and four sisters (Ann, Emma, Elizabeth and Martha), at Moor Cottage, Bramley Road, Armley, Yorkshire.

"Page 79 [...] 1864 Marriage solemnized at the Parish Church in the Parish of Bradford in the County of York [No.] 158 3 December Joseph Foster [aged] 22, [a] Bachelor [and] Overlooker [of] Bradford, [father] Joseph Foster, [an] Overlooker, [and] Mary Ann Waterhouse [aged] 21, [a] Spinster [and] Weaver [of] Bradford, [father] Mathew Waterhouse, [a] Weaver. Married in the Parish Church according to the Rites and Ceremonies of the Established Church after Banns [he signed his namem she made her mark] in the Presence of us William Holmes [and] Christopher Gilson [who witnessed several other marriages].

She was the informant for the birth of her daughter Annie Elizabeth Foster on 18 May 1870 at Guiseley, Yorkshire, and registered it on 22 June 1870 making her mark - her maiden name was Waterhouse.

In 1871 census as Mary Ann Foster aged 24, born in Leeds, and was living at Guiseley Station Cottages, Neatherfield with her husband (Joseph) and daughter (Annie C). Her daughter Mary was living with Joseph Foster (father-in-law) in Low Wortley.

In the 1911 census as Mary Ann Foster aged 64, born in Lower Bramley, Yorkshire, married for 44 years with four children, two having died, and living with her husband (Joseph), daughter (Lavinia) and a sevant (Kathleen Garrity aged 20, born in Golborne, Lancashire and single) in nine rooms at Woodnook, Rawden, Wharfedale, Yorkshire West Riding.

Her husband died on 10 May 1919 at Olive House, Westfield, Yeadon.

I cannot locate her in the 1921 census so I assume she had moved to Galashiels.

Whitham (deceased) [of] Acite Bronchitis 5 days [informant] Walter Smail Son-in-Law present [on] 1931 February 26th At Galashiels".
