In the 1921 census as Norman Stubbs aged 9 years 7 months, born in Cheetham (not indexed), Lancashire, and living with his parents (George and Florrie), brother (Reginald), three sisters (Eva, Grace and Ivy) and aunt Lily Belton in five rooms at 87 Whitegate Drive, Blackpool, Lancashire.

He joined his father's furniture removal company G Stubbs Removal Contractors which was established in 1934, and became a director.
