A man was so infatuated with a widow that when they broke up he left a note for her on her husband's grave, a court was told.
Widower Edmond Harrison, also stalked Kathleen Scheib by making up to eight silent phone calls a day to her mobile phone.
He was made the subject of a 12-month restraining order.
Harrison was also given a two-year conditional discharge by Blackpool Magistrates.
Martine Connah, prosecuting, said up to January this year the couple had been in a relationship.
After they broke up, Harrison persistently called his ex's mobile phone, and continued despite being given a fixed penalty notice and a police caution.
Harrison still continued to call and on February 26 he damaged a for sale sign at Mrs Scheib's home.
Harrison, 62, of Sandown Close, Kirkham, near Preston, pleaded guilty to harassment.
He was given a police caution for this and warned under the Harassment Act never to contact her again.
The prosecutor said: "For a few weeks he abided by this.
He then went to Mrs Scheib's husband's grave.
He left a note as if it was written to the deceased, but it was obviously meant for the aggrieved."
The note spoke about wanting to see her again and this upset her.
Mrs Scheib changed her mobile phone number, but the defendant struck up a friendship with her sister and got Mrs Scheib's new number.
When Mrs Scheib went on holiday to Spain with her daughter he sent her two texts.
The prosecutor said: "He was making silent calls to her up to eight times a day and in the early hours.
"She did not know how he had got her new number and she was terrified."
Mitch Sarangi, defending, said the couple, whose spouses had both died, started their relationship in May 2002.
They lived together as man and wife, but in May last year the relationship started to deteriorate.
Mr Sarangi said: "One day she basically said the relationship was over. He was in love and this came like a bolt out of the blue.
He found it very difficult to accept she had unilaterally decided it was over.
Harrison had phoned in the hope she would change her mind.
He had suffered from depression and was having treatment.
He now accepted the relationship was over."
