Entry in Ancestry Scotland, Select Births and Baptisms, 1564-1950 for Mary Mackay born on 29 November 1866 in Edinburgh, Midlothian, parents John Mackay and Helen Yorkston. Her parents married in Galvald in 1862 when he was 33 and she was 24, but I cannot find births that match these ages, nor any entries in the census records.
Entry in the Register of Births for Mary Mackay in 1866 in Canongate (685/3 1248). "Page 416 1866 Births in the District of Canongate in the Burgh of Edinburgh [...] No.1248 Mary Mackay 1866 November Twenty Ninth 5 hr 45 min A.M. 7 Lower View Craig Row Edinburgh John Mackay Stable Keeper Helen Mackay M.S. I cannot locate the family in the 1871 census.

Sinton, and (signed) Mary McKay D. Servant (single) aged 21 of Tynninghame, parents John McKay stableman (deceased) and Helen McKay M.S. Yorkson, registered 1888 14th July At: Whitekirk.
Her daughter was born in Fogo in 1890.

In the 1921 census as Mary Grieve aged 54 years 6 months, born in Edinburgh, Midlothian, and living with her husband (Robert) in six rooms at Kimmr Mill Farm House, Edrom, Berwickshire. Her son James and family were living in the farm cottage.
Her husband died in Edrom on 9 February 1929 at Kimmerghame Mill.

Mary Mackay was the mother of James Grieve, husband of Margaret Sligh Purves, first cousin of Peter Purves, husband of Isabella Richardson Steele, wife of Robert James Gordon, father of Irene Alice Gordon, wife of George William Barton, brother of Dennis Alfred Barton, my brother-in-law.
