McKay, [and] (signed) Margaret Sligh Purves Agicultural Labourer (Spinster) [aged] 21 [of] Middlestots Parish of Edrom, [parents] William Purves Farm Servant [and] Agnes Purves M.S. Purves, [witnesses] James Sinton Grieve [and] Lillie Purves." The Mill and Middlestots are either side of Kimmerghame House, on B6460.
His first son was born at Middlestots, Edrom on 11 April 1916 and second at Kimmerghame Mill on 19 July 1920.
In the 1921 census as James Grieve aged 27 years 5 months, born in Fogo, Berwick, a ploughman working for Robt Grieve Farmer (father?), two dependent children one under 1 and the other aged 5, and living with his wife (Margt Sligh) and two sons (Robert and Willm) in three rooms at Kimmr Mill Farm Cottage, Edrom, Berwickshire. His parents were living in the farm house.
He was the informant for the death of his father at Kimmerghame Mill on 9 Feberuary 1929 - no address is given so I assume he was living wth his parents.
He was the informant for the death of his aunt-in-law Jane Purves at Kimmerghame Mains, Edrom on June 21 1930 when his address is given as Graden West Mains, Coldsteam.
His last two sons children were born in Edrom in 1933 and to 1941.

James grieve was the husband of Margaret Sligh Purves, first cousin of Peter Purves, husband of Isabella Richardson Steele, wife of Robert James Gordon, father of Irene Alice Gordon, wife of George William Barton, brother of Dennis Alfred Barton, my brother-in-law.
