I cannot find an entry in the 1851 census but in the West Surrey Family History Society West Surrey 1851 census as James Luff aged 6, born in Elstead and living with his parents (Thomas and Ann), two brothers (Charles and Thomas) and three sisters (Ann, Mary and Sarah) at Elstead, Surrey.

His brother was registered in January-March 1852 in Hambledon and baptised on 25 January 1852 at St Michael and All Angels, Thursley when they were living in Elstead.

His brother was registered in January-March 1854 in Hambledon and baptised on 19 February 1854 at St Michael and All Angels, Thursley when they were living in Elstead.

His brother was registered in October-December 1857 in Hambledon and baptised on 31 January 1858 at St Michael and All Angels, Thursley when they were living in Elstead.

His sister was registered in April-June 1860 in Hambledon, and baptised on 27 May 1860 at St Michael and All Angels, Thursley when they were living in Elstead.

In the 1911 census as James Luff aged 66, born in Horsley (sic - in the index, Thursley on the original), Surrey, a builder and employer, and living with his wife (Mary) and son (James John) in five rooms at 16 Kemble Road, Forest Hill, Kent S E.

Death of James Luff in FreeBMD in October-December 1915 in aged 70 in Croydon (2a 416).

There are five entries in Ancestry Public Member Trees for James Luff born in Elstead, Surrey in 1845, parents Thomas Luff and Ann Croucher. Another entry adds his marriage to Mary and six children, ( not Mary), but gives his death in Kent in June 1894. David Hornblow lists all his children plus an H G born in 1881. Another gives his wife as Mary Ann Lester, and his death in 1915.

Relationship

James Luff was my my half first cousin twice removed. His wife was the sister of the husband of his sister Ann.
