On a copy made on 18 August 2004 of George William Payne's entry of birth dated 23 January 1841, his mother was given as Mary Ann Payne formerly Kelly. She was also the informant, and as she made her mark I assume she could not write. They lived at 116 Old Street, Saint Luke, Middlesex.
In the 1841 census as Mary A Payne aged 28, born in Middlesex, and living with Henry (husband?), George (son?) and Mary A (daughter?) in Brewer Steet, St James Clerkenwell, Middlesex. Several other families were living at the same address.
In the 1851 census as Mary T Payne aged 40, born in St Pancras, Sussex (sic - in the index, St Giles, Middlesex on the original), and living with her husband (Henry), three sons (Frederick, George W and John H), and three daughters (Eliza E, Louisa and Mary A) at 4 Brewer Street, Goswell Street, Clerkenwell, Middlesex.

Entry in the 1881 census as Mary Ann Payne aged 70, born in Middlesex, and living with her husband (Henry) at 20 Green Terrace, Finsbury, Middlesex. There was another family of 10 living at the same address. Green Terrace is a very short road between Rosebery Avenue and Gloucester Way.
In the 1891 census as Mary W (sic - in the index, A on the original) Payne aged 30 (sic - in the index, 80 on the original), born in ? Sussex (same location as her husband bot illegible), and living with her husband (Henry) at 68 Myddleton Street, Clerkenwell, London. Several other families were living at the same address.
