Mavis Jean Avolio, 75, of New Berlin, passed away on Dec. 23, 2013 at her home with her family at her side. Mavis was born in Kent, England on Jan. 28, 1938 the daughter of Herbert and Edith Akhurst Gurr. She met James Avolio in England while he was serving his country and on March 23, 1957 in Kent they were united in marriage. Shortly thereafter Jim and Mavis came to the United States living first in Paterson, NJ and then in 1972 came to the Chennago County area. Mavis was employed by Timberbrook Ent. which made components for dollhouses and eventually did childcare in her own home for several years. Mavis is survived by her children Karen Kawam and husband Elias of AZ., Susan Walling and husband Kern of So. New Berlin, Daniel Avolio and wife Jeanette of New Berlin, Laurie Brooks and husband Daniel of Weat Pawlet, VT, Audrey Piatti and husband Michael of Leonard, NJ, David Avolio and wife Kimberly of New Berlin and Dennis Avolio and wife Robin of Norwich. Mavis is also survived by her sister Beryl Houghton, her brother Dennis Gurr both of England along with 26 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Mavis was predeceased by her husband James on Jan. 2, 2013, and her sisters Ilene and Audrey. Graveside services for Mavis will be held at a later date in St. Paul’s Cemetey of Norwich. Arrangements are by the R.J.Fahy Funeral Home.
