In the 1911 census as Arthur Grantham aged 23, born in Cobham, Surrey, married for 1 year, and a student (sic - in the index, steward for a shipping company on the original) and boarding with Thomas Bunnell (aged 50, born in Birkenhead, Cheshire, a ship fitter for an engineeering firm married for 24 years with five children one having died), his wife (Emma aged 47 and born in Liverpool, Lancashire), their three sons (George Harold aged 16, and a clerk for a flour miller, Thomas C A aged 18 and an apprentice engine fitter for an engineering firm, and William aged 21 and an electrician, all born in Birkenmhead, Cheshire and single), and daughter (Elsie aged 23, born in Birkenhead, Cheshire, single and no stated employment) in five rooms at 128 Arthur Street, Birkenhead, Cheshire. His wife was living with his brother Albert in three rooms at 33 Chelmer Road, Homerton, St John at Hackney, London.

He was a witness at the marriage of his sister Mary and John Albert Wooldridge on 9 July 1911 at St Paul, Lower Homerton.

There is considerable information on Arthur Grantham in Ancestry British Army WWI Pension Records 1914-1920 of which this is a small extract. He joined the army on 2 February 1909 in London. He was aged 21, born in Corthan (sic), Guildford, Surrey, height 5 ft 8 inches, weight 142 lbs, blue eyes, brown hair, fresh complexion, good physical development, defective teeth (slightly overlapping). His number was 55274 although it is not clear which regiment. He was at Woolwich from 4 February 1909 to 19 April 1909 and then at St John's Wood. He was discharged at his own request on 9 March 1910. He re-enlisted on 27 August 1914 as no. 93795 in the Royal Field Artillary 130 battery, and embarked for France on 30 May 1915. He was admitted to a field hospital on 29 September 1915, and to a Red Cross Hospital on 2 October 1915, again on 14 January 1916 and 30 August 1916. He was adward the Military Medal on 4 August 1917 in the field. He was granted leave from 3 June 1917 to 13 June 1917 extended to 19 June 1917. He was promoted to acting sergeant major on 14 April 1917 but did not assume duties until 20 June 1917. He was granted leave from 21 December 1917 to 4 January 1918. He was discharged on 20 March 1919 when his age was 30 and his address was 33 Chelmer Road, Homerton.

In the 1921 census as Arthur Grantham aged 32 years 5 months, born in Cobham, Surrey, a salesman furniture employed by E Atkins furniture manufacter of 49 Church Row, Bethnal Green, London E2, and living with his wife (Edith) in 3 rooms at 33 Chelmer Road E9, Hackney, London, Middlesex.
