Birth of Arthur Grantham in FreeBMD in January-March 1889 in Epsom (2a 32) which included Cobham.
His sister Ellen was also born in Cobham in 1890, but Mary was born in Witley in 1891.
In the 1891 census as Arthur Grantham aged 2, born in Cotham (sic - in the index, Cobham on the original), Surrey, and living with his parents (Arthur and Mary), sister (Ellen) and widowed grandmother (Ellen Ferrett) at the Jolly Farmer, Crossways, Witley, Surrey.
His father died in January-March 1897.
In the 1901 census as Arthur Grantham aged 12, born in Cotham, Surrey, and living with his widowed mother (Mary), brother (Albert), and two sisters (Dora and Mary) in four rooms at Crossways, Witley, Surrey.
In the 1911 census as Arthur Grantham aged 23, born in Cobham, Surrey and living in Birkenhead, Cheshire.
There is considerable information on Arthur Grantham in Ancestry British Army WWI Pension Records 1914-1920 of which this is a small extract. He was an Officers Steward number 365618 in the Royal Navy from 6 February 1907 to 25 January 1909. He joined the army on 2 February 1909 in London. He was aged 21, born in Cobham, Guildford, Surrey, height 5 ft 8 inches, weight 142 lbs, blue eyes, brown hair, fresh complexion, good physical development, defective teeth (slightly overlapping). His number was 55274 although it is not clear which regiment. He was at Woolwich from 4 February 1909 to 19 April 1909 and then at St John's Wood. He was discharged at his own request on 9 March 1910. He re-enlisted on 27 August 1914 as no. 93795 in the Royal Field Artillary 130 battery, and embarked for France on 30 May 1915. He was admitted to a field hospital on 29 September 1915, and to a Red Cross Hospital on 2 October 1915, again on 14 January 1916 and 30 August 1916. He was adward the Military Medal on 4 August 1917 in the field. He was granted leave from 3 June 1917 to 13 June 1917 extended to 19 June 1917. He was promoted to acting sergeant major on 14 April 1917 but did not assume duties until 20 June 1917. He was granted leave from 21 December 1917 to 4 January 1918. He was discharged on 20 March 1919 when his age was 30 and his address was 33 Chelmer Road, Homerton.
