The same information is in three entries Ancestry England, Select Births and Christenings, 1538-1975 in Margate in one, St John, Margate in another, and St John the Baptist, Margate in the third.

In the 1841 census as William Gill aged 8, born in Kent and living with his parents (William and Jane), brother (John) and sister (Mary Ann) in King Street, Margate, Kent.

I cannot locate him in the 1851 census, but he was not living with his parents.

Marriage of William Richard Gill and Charlotte Marie Town in FreeBMD in October-December 1853 in Thanet (2A 1072).

His daughter was registered in July-September 1854 in Thanet and baptised on 13 (18?) August 1854 at St John the Baptist, Margate.

His son was registered in April-June 1856 in Thanet.

His daughter was registered in April-June 1860 in Thanet.

In the 1861 census as William Gill aged 28, born in Mayatt (sic - in the index, Margate on the original), Kent, a mariner and living with his wife (Maria), son (John H) and two daughters (Maria M and Sarah A) - (the surname of the children is spelt Gell in the index, Gill on the original) at 1 Back Road, Margate, Kent.

His son was registered in October-December 1862 in Thanet.

His two sons and daughter were baptised on 10 May 1863 at St John the Baptist, Margate.

His wife was buried on 6 August 1863 at St John the Baptist, Margate,

Marriage of William R Gill and Martha J Woodward in FreeBMD in January-March 1866 in Thanet (2A 878). "Page 164 1866. Marriage solemnized at the Parish Church in the Parish of St Johns Margate in the County of Kent. [No.] 327 February 8th 1866 William Richard Gill [aged] 33 [a] Widower [and] Mariner [of] Margate [father] William Gill [a] Labourer, [and] Martha Jane Woodward [aged] 20 [a] Spinster [of] Margate [father] Richard Woodward [a] Labourer. Married in the Parish Church according to the Rites and Ceremonies of the Established Curch after Bann [both made their marks] in the Presence of us Daniel Ovenden Woodward.

A Newspaper article states that William Gill was summoned for threateninng his wife Martha Jane Gill and her mother Elizabeth Woodward. Martha had left her husband to live with her mother after being married for a little over ten months, partly because she was vey ill and there was no-one at home to look after her, and partly because of threats from her husband. He was bound over to keep the peace for three months, he paying £10 and raising two sureties of £5 each, and urged to give up his drinking habits.

His son was registered in April-June 1866 and baptised on 9 September 1866 at St John the Baptist, Margate, mother's name Martha Jane.

His daughter was registered in April-June 1868 in Thanet

His son was registered in July-September 1870 and baptised on 7 February 1871 at St John the Baptist, Margate, mother's name Jane.

In the 1871 census as William R Gill aged 39, born in Margate, a mariner, and living with his wife (Martha I), two sons (Daniel R and James R) and daughter (Martha I) at 5 Pantile Row, Margate.

His son was registered in July-September 1874 in Thanet.

His son and daughter were baptised on 17 September 1874 at St John the Baptist, Margate, mother's name Martha.

Death of William Richard Gill in FreeBMD in October-December 1874 aged 42 in Thanet (2A 476). "No. 208 Twenty eighth October 1874 [at] 5 Dorset Place William Richard Gill [aged] 42 years [a] Boatman [of] Phthiois Certified [informant] A Brown [of] 6 Dorset Place Margate [on] Thirtieth October 1874". His wife's future husband was Archibald Brown who had been married to Martha Jane's sister, Sarah Ann.
