Entry in Ancestry Surrey, England, Church of England Marriages, 1754-1937 for William Baker, father George Baker, and Anne Philps on 2 January 1841 in Headley, All Saints. "Page 11 1841 Marriage solemnized in the Parish of Headley in the County of Southampton [No.] 21 January 2d William Baker of Full age [a] Bachelor [and] Farmer [of] Headley [father] George Baker [a] Farmer, [and] Anne Philps of Full age [a] Spinster [of] Headley [father] Thomas Philps [a] Farmer. Married in the Parish Church according to the Rites and Ceremonies of the Church of England in the Presence of us, James Baker [and] Charlotte Baker.

His son was christened on 23 May 1841 in Frensham, Surrey, although the parents are William crossed out and replaced by John and Ann Baker although there is no record of John marrying Ann.

In the 1841 census as William Baker aged 25, born in Hampshire, a farmer and living with Ann (wife?) and Albert (son?) at Barford, Headley, Hampshire.

His wife was buried on 25 April 1842 at All Saints, Headley.

In the 1851 census as William Baker aged 33, born in Headley, Hampshire, widowed, no stated employment and living his widowed father (George), two brothers (Albert - his son?) and Henry), sister (Sarah), a visitor (John Baker aged 40, born in Headley, single and a farmer of 49 acres employing three labourers), and two servants (William Mills aged 23, single and employed as an agricultural labourer and Martha Shrube (sic - Shrub on the original) aged 16 and born in Headley - my great grandmother) at Simmondstone, Headley. George's wife would have been too old for Albert to have been her son, and I assume this is William's son as in the 1841 census.

In the 1861 census as William Baker aged 44, born in Headley, Hampshire, head of the household, and living with his brother (Henry), sister (Marry), nephew (Albert - his son?), and two servants (Mark Barrnett aged 18 and Agmes Hunt aged 19, both born in Headley, Hampshire) in Headley, Hampshire.

In the 1891 census as William Baher (sic - in the index, Baker on the original) aged 73, born in Frensham, Surrey, widowed, a retired farmer and lodging with Thomas Keel (aged 74, born in Braishfield, Hampshire and a small farmer neither employed nor employer) and his wife (Elizabeth aged 74 and born in Farley, Hampshire) in Bridestone Lane, Farringdon, Hampshire.

Death of William Baker in FreeBMD in January-March 1892 aged 77 in Alton (2c 154).

Baker's of Headley states George’s seventh child, William, was born in about 1816. He married Ann Philps on 2 January 1841; but ten years later is recorded as a widower, living at Simmondstone Farm. A directory of 1859 records William and Henry as farmers at Simmondstone.
