All the children were christened in Frensham and I assume were born in Lower Churt. This was in the area of the Old Post Office at the bottom of Star Hill. In the entries he is described as a labourer in 1835 and 1837, a shopkeeper in 1840, a grocer in 1842, a shopman in 1844 and a labourer in 1847 to 1850, either of Churt or of Frensham - I suspect his wife kept the shop and he got extra income from labouring.

In the 1841 census as Stephen Baker aged 40 (rounded down to a multiple of 5), born in Surrey, employed as a grocer and living with Ann (wife?), John and William (sons?) and Martha and Mary (daughters?) at Lower Churt, Farnham, Surrey.
