In the 1881 census as John Baker aged 40, born in Frensham, Surrey, single, employed as a Pensioner Employed At Pimlico Stores As Lab (which seems young to be a pensioner but he may have been in the army) and lodging with Joshua (sic - on the original, but should have been Joseph) and Mercy Leggett - this was John's sister Mercy or Massy), their son (Joseph S), their two daughters (Elizth Jane and Mercy), a boader (Hannah Coombes aged 77, born in Woolwich, Kent, married and an annuitant) and another lodger (Thos. Jones aged 28, born in Kings Pyon, Hereford, unmarried and employed as a railway carpenter) at 2 Cottage Place, South Lambeth Road, Lambeth, Surrey (this address was shared with another family).
