"Page 80 Baptisms solemnized in the Parish of Frensham District of Shottermill in the County of Surrey in the Year 1877 [...] 1877 April 15 No. 637 Maurice Son of Albert, [a] Laborer & Mary Ann Baker [of] Shottermill".

His sister was born in Boundstone, Wrecclesham in 1880.

In the 1881 census as Maurice Baker, aged 4, born in Haslemere, Surrey, and living with his parents (Albert and Mary A), brother (Edwin J) and five sisters (Angelina, Ellen, Emily, Mary A and Matilda K) at 5 Blount Cottages, Union Road, Farnham, Surrey.

His brother was born at 5 Blount Cottages, Union Road, Farnham in 1884 and his sister at 26 Michels Row, Richmond in 1890.

I cannot find the family in the 1891 census.

In the 1901 census as Maurue (sic - in the index, Maurice on the original) Baker aged 24, born in Frensham, Surrey, single, a sorting and telegraphic clerk and living with his parents (Albert and Mary Ann), two brothers (Albert E and Edwin John) and three sisters (Edith E, Emily and Mary Ann) at 20 Crown Terrace, Richmond, Surrey.

In the 1911 census as Maurice Baker aged 34, born in Lion Green, Haslemere, Surrey, a Civil Service - Clerk at Post Office, father born in Crosswater, Churt, Surrey, and living with his wife (Patricia Morgan Baker), nephew (Arthur John Syms - daughter of Emily) and a servant (Lilian May Samders aged 19, born in St Helier, Jersey, Channel Islands and single) in six rooms at La Maison, La Lachasse, St Helier, Jersey, Channel Islands.

There are a large number of pages, often illegible, in the Ancestry British Army WWI Service Records, 1914-1920 for Maurice Baker No 77868 Cylist? Div Sig Royal Engineers. He married on 15 September 1905 at Allen Street Chapel, Kensington, his wife was Patricia M living at La Maisonette La Chasse, St Helens, Jersey, and he had a nephew and a son ? John Syms born 23 August 1903 in ?ford (his nephew by his sister Emily?), on 6 November 1916 he was 5 ft 5.5 inches, chest 34.5 + 3 inches, and had a mole on his left thigh. He had been employed as a Post Office Overseer in Jersey. A letter dated 12 November 1915 to Fenny Stratford Signal Depot states he had a good knowledge of the French lanuguage. Another states he was a telegraphist and enlisted as a sapper. On 11 November 1915 a report states he was a proficient office telegraphist at the Signal School, Fenny Stratford. He was invalided to South Africa on 11 February 1918 with malaria? There is a form dated 5 March 1919 at Crystal Palace.

An email from David Bradley (grandson of Arthur John Syms) states that Maurice died in 1969 in Jersey, having taken early retirement on the grounds of ill health … before the WW2. Patricia died in 1940. They had no children & his grandfather inherited some furniture - & the house etc went to other members of the family.
