In the 1871 census as Allen Baker aged 5, born in Frensham, Surrey and living with his parents (George and Elizabeth in the index, Joseph and Elizabeth on the original), and two brothers (Frank and George), who were lodging with George Baker (his granduncle), another lodger (John Baker - another granduncle) and a servant (Maria Carby (sic in the index, Maria Larby on the original, daughter of Samuel and Ann who were living next door) aged 10 and born in Frensham) at Crosswaters, Churt, Frensham.

In the 1881 census as Allen Baker aged 15, born in Frensham, Surrey, a farmer's son and living with his parents (Joseph and Elizabeth), four brothers (Frank, George, James and Joseph) and uncle (Selby Baker) at Crosswater, Churt, Frensham, Surrey.

In the 1891 census as Allan (sic - on the original) Baker aged 25, born in Shotter Mill, Surrey, single, an agricultural labourer and boarding with Richard Ansell (aged 64, born in Dorking, Surrey and an estate foreman), his wife (Jane aged 61 and born in Dorking), his grandson (Geo aged 21, born in London and a general labourer) and daughter (Elizth aged 21 and born in London - Allen's future wife) in Ashcombe Cottage, Ranmore Common, Dorking, Surrey.

In the 1901 census as Allen Baker aged 35, born in Shottermith (sic - in the index, Shottermill on the original), Surrey, a farm manager and living with his wife (Elizabeth) and two sons (Charles F and Ernest R) at Birtley Farm, Dunsfold, Bramley, Surrey.

The children were born in Dunsfold up to 1908, but Edward was born in Dorking in 1910.

In the 1911 census as Allen Baker aged 45, and living with Elizabeth (wife?), Charles Frederick, Edward George and Ernest Richard (sons?), and Ellen Ethel, Emily Edith, Margaret Rose and Mary Elizabeth (daughters?) in Dorking, Surrey.

The family was living at Ranmore Farm, Dorking in 1915 from the Service Records of Ernest Richard.

Death of Allen Baker in FreeBMD in April-June 1937 aged 71 in Surrey SW (2a 411).

Susan F Belsey has an entry for Allen Baker born in 1866 in Surrey, parents Joseph Baker and Elizabeth Fox, and five children (excluding Charles Frederick and Edward George).

In Bakers of Headley it states Joseph’s first child by his first marriage, Allen, was born in 1866. In 1881 the census recorded him at home with his family at Crosswaters Farm, Churt, the “farmer’s son”. He apparently married and had five children: Ernest Richard, Mary Elizabeth, Emily Edith, Ellen Ethel and Margaret Rose.

There is an entry in Ancestry Public Member Trees for Allen Baker born about 1866 in Fransham, Surrey, parents Joseph Baker and Elizabeth Fox.

Relationship

Allen Baker was my half second cousin twice removed.
