"Marriages 1809 Joseph Adams of this [Parish?] Bachelor & Sarah Sparrow of this Parish, Spinster, were married in this Church by Banns this ninth day February in the Year 1809. [Both made their marks]."
His first four children were baptised at St Mary, Gissing from 1809 to 1818, and his last four in Tasburgh from 1820 to 1830.
In the 1841 census as Joseph Adams aged 55 (rounded down to a multiple of 5), born in Norfolk, employed as an agricultural labourer, and living with Sarah (wife?), Thomas (son?), and Emily (daughter?) at Back Street, Newton Flotman, Norfolk.
On the copy of the entry of marriage for James Cowles and Emily Adams on 27 July 1846 he is stated to be the father of Emily and employed as a labourer. The marriage was witnessed by his daughter Eliza.
In the 1851 census as Joseph Adams aged 67, born in Flordon, Norfolk, employed as an agricultural labourer, and living with his wife (Emily) and son (Thomas) in Bridge Steet, Newton Flotman, Norfolk. His birth was calculated from this entry.
Death of Joseph Adams in FreeBMD in July-September 1853 in Henstead (4b 115) which included Newton Flotman.
On a copy of the entry of death number 267 in 1853 in Humble Yard. Henstead, Norfolk it states Joseph Adams died on 20 July 1853 at Newton Flotman aged 75 of a fever (certified). He was an agricultural labourer. The informant was Sarah Adams who was present at his death, and lived at 3 Alms?, Newton Flotman. She made her mark. The death was registered on 22 July 1853. Note that this age is 6 years too old compared with the two census entries putting his birth in 1778 when his mother was 19.
