Birth of James Young in FreeBMD in October-December 1868 in Portsea (2b 498).
In the 1871 census as James Young aged 1, born in Portsmouth, Hampshire, and living with his parents (Abraham and Mary), brother (William) and sister (Alice) at 44 Cottage View, Landport, Portsea, Hampshire.
In the 1881 census as James Young aged 12, born in Portsmouth, Hampshire, and living with his parents (Abraham and Mary), two brothers (Alfred and John) and three sisters (Emma, Charlotte and Mary) at 6 Woodland Street, Kingston, Portsea, Hampshire.
I cannot identify him in the 1891 census.
Marriage of James William (sic - on the typed original) Young and Janet Flood in FreeBMD in October-December 1896 in Woolwich (1d 2113).
In the 1901 census as James Young aged 32, born in Portsmouth, Hampshire, a machinist steel, and living with his wife (Janet), three sons (Harry Thomas, James Herbert and Herbert Edward), a visitor (Alice Wilson aged 24, born in Tame, Oxfordshire, single and a domestic servant) and a boarder (Henry Albert Wren aged 20, born in Plumstead, Kent, single and a machinist in steel) at 97 Robert Street, Plumstead, London. (Woolwich had been in London since 1889.)
The family moved to Medway between 1902 and 1905 from the births of Charley and Elsie.
In the 1911 census as James Young aged 42, and living with Janet (wife?), Charles Percy, George Leslie, Henry Thomas, Herbert Edward, Horace Vernon and James Herbert (sons?) and Elsie Janet and Lavinia Eizabeth (daughters?) in Medway, Kent.
His wife died in Medway in 1915 about the time of the birth of Lillian.
Entry in the Register of Deaths for James Young in January-March 1950 ageed 82 in Maidstone (5b 743).
I have some doubts regarding the above. A James William Young was born in Southampton in 1868 and a James Henry Young in Portsea in 1870. There are entries in Ancestry Public Member Trees for James Henry Young born 17 November 1869 in Portsmouth, father William Young, married to Lily Eliza Barnes, and died in Portsmouth on 21 February 1959. There are several entries for James William Young born on 26 November 1868 in Portsmouth, parents Edward David Young and Amelia Goddard, married to Janet Flood with the above children who died in Kent in 1935-1940. There is also an entry for James Young, mother Mary Young born in 1869 in Portsmouth. The only James W Young who died in Kent and was born around 1867-1871 was born in Sevenoaks in 1870 and died in Maidstone in 1956. In 1871 census there was a James Young born in 1866 in Portsmouth, mother Mary A, James Young born in 1867 in Portsmouth, parents George and Eliza, James William Young born in Southampton, father Christopher, James Young born in 1869 in Landport, parents Edward D and Amelia and living in Plumbstead, Kent, James Young born in 1870 in Portsmouth, parents Abraham and Mary, and James Henry Young born in 1870 in St Mary Extra, parents Alfred and Mary. In the 1881 census there is a James Young born in 1868 in Plumstead and living with his parents Edward and Mary A in Plumstead. In the 1881 census their names are Edward D and Ann. The Edward David Young and Amelia Goddard just does not tie into the census information.
James Young was the second cousin of Ellen Young, wife of Thomas Paine, my eighth cousin three times removed.
