When John Shrubb logged on to the Internet, he never thought he'd meet a stunning Russian blonde. And just four months on, that beautiful stranger has become his loving wife. Valentina Stacevica arrived at Halifax Register Office able to speak only basic English, while 30-year-old John doesn't know a word of Russian. But that didn't stop the happy couple exchanging their vows - then celebrating their whirlwind romance with friends and family at the Running Man pub, Pellon Lane, Halifax. John, who attended the former Halifax Catholic High, said he met Valentina in a web chat room in April. And love conquered all, even the language barrier, to ensure the couple fell for each other across the globe. "We were in touch for hours and hours, and the minute I saw her photograph I knew she was the one," said John, a teacher in Rome. "We met up in person for the first time a month later and then I was even more sure she was the woman for me," said John, whose family live at Green Way, Bradshaw, Halifax. Biology student Valentina, 28, is originally from the Black Sea area of Russia but was living in Latvia when she met her on-line love. She moved to Rome to be with John and will transfer from her Latvian university to one in Italy. Since she arrived, John said they were enjoying spending "24 hours a day, seven days a week" together. "I saw him and thought Yes," said Valentina, whose family also attended the service. The couple are heading for a honeymoon in Orlando, Florida, and plan to live in Rome.
