There is a submitted entry in the IGI for the marriage of David Leslay, parents David and Janet Leslay and Margaret Scrumger in 1719 in Balldowry, Kettins, Angus, Scotland. There is also a submitted entry for David Lesly and Margaret Scrimger in about 1713 in Newtyle, Angus. I cannot find any evidendence for either.
The first two children were christened in Newtyle where the parents (David Leslie and no mother for one and David Lesly and Margaret Scrimger for the other) lived at the Hill of Keiler (Kilour or Keillor which is just SW of Newtyle) and the last four (parents David Leslie for two and Lesly for two, and Margaret Scrumger)in in Kettins where the parents lived at Muirfolds.
Her husband died in Kettins in 1771.
The name is derived from the Old English skrysher for swordsman. The clan originated in Fife and became Earls of Dundee and Hereditary Royal Standard-Bearer of Scotland.
