I cannot locate a registration of birth or christening although there are two entries in St Pancras in January-March 1846 (1 307 and 1 373), but which did not include Marylebone.
He appears to have a brother William born about 1848 from the 1861 census but I cannot find any other information regarding him.
In the 1851 census as John Miles aged 5, born in Marylebone, Middlesex, and a visitor to Frances Harlow (aged 24, born in Margate, Kent, and married) and another visitor (Susan Dunning aged 36, born in Liverpool, Lancashire and single) at 6 Northumberland Crescent, Margate St John the Baptist, Kent. His mother was single and a dressmaker born in Margate living with John and Margaret Christie at 18 Nutford Place, Marylebone.
His mother married Joseph Tribe on 8 June 1859 at St Luke, Finsbury when she is stated to be a spinster.
In the 1861 census as John Miles aged 15, born in St Pancras, Middlesex, a carpenter, and living with his stepfather (Joseph Tribe), mother (Mary A Tribe), bother (William Miles) and a servant (Mary Rourke aged 17 and born in London, Middlesex) in House on Bank, Poplar, London.

Married in the Parish Church according to the Rites and Ceremonies of the Established Church after Banns". I think his father's name was created to disguise his lack of a known father.

Another family lived at the same address.
