In the 1841 census as Ann Madgwick aged 14, born in Sussex, and living with Thos and Elizabeth (parents?), Chas, George, Hugh, Peter and Thos (brothers?) and Sophia (sister?) in Churchwood, Fittleworth, Sussex.

Her daughter was born on the 11 December 1848 and was registered as Ann Madgwick, but was baptised on 7 January 1849 in Fittleworth on 7 January 1849 as Ann Capelin Madgwick, but with no father.

In the 1851 census as Ann Caplin aged 23, born in Fittleworth, married, a pauper, and living with Thomas and Ann Caplin (children?) and some 48 others at the Union Work House, Sutton, Sussex. Her husband was living with his brother George at 21 Vine Street, Brighton St Peter.

Her children were registered in Chichester with the surname Capelin, and baptised in Fittleworth.

In the 1861 census as Ann Caplin aged 31, born in Fittleworth, Sussex aand living with her husband (Charles), two sons (Charles and George), and three daughters (Ann, Carroline and Florah) in a cottage in Lower Street, Fittleworth, Sussex.

In the 1871 census as Ann Caplin aged 43, born in Fittleworth, Sussex, and living with her husband (Charles),and five sons (Alfred, Charles, Edwin, George and Peter) in a cottage in Lower Street, Fittleworth, Sussex.

Her husband died in Petworth in 1877.

Ann Madgewick was the first cousin once removed of David Madgwick, husband of Catherine Young, grandaunt of Ellen Young, wife of Thomas Paine, my eighth cousin three times removed.
