Notes

Birth of John Fulleck in FreeBMD in January-March 1862 in Farnbro (2A 111).

Christening of John Fullick in the IGI on 15 December 1861 in Headley, Hampshire, parents Henry and Martha Fullick. The same information is in Ancestry England, Select Births and Christenings, 1538-1975, and another giving the date as the 18 December 1861.

The same information is in Headley Baptisms adding his father was a labourer living in Barford.

Entry in Ancestry Surrey, England, Baptisms, 1813-1917 for John Fullick on 15 December 1861 at Headley, All Saints, parents Henry and Martha Fullick. "Page 38 Baptisms solemnized in the Parish of Headley in the County of Southampton in the Year 1861 [...] 1861 Dec 15th No.302 John Son of Henry, [a] labourer, & Martha Fullick [of] Barford".

In 1871 census as John Fullick aged 10, born in Headley, and living with his parents (Henry and Martha), six brothers (Arthur, Frederick, George, James, Samuel and William), and two sisters (Martha and Mary Ann) at the Furze Hills, Churt (as this is the third entry in the Churt census starting from Pond Cottage, I think it must be Copse or Coppice Cottage where my father lived after 1906).

I have a Bible (Oxford M.DCCC.LX gold edged) in which there is an inscription on the first page "To John Fullick from his friend A B Alexander in remembrance of four years good service at Churt Vicarage. February 28th 1880 'The entrance of Thy Word giveth light". The quote is from Psalms 119v130 and is located in the Bible by a calendar card 1940 "Knitted Comforts for the Services. Help our School Wool Fund. - 1d. please! Raistrick & Co., Ltd. Bradford" and a picture of Jasmin (a lady holding a red rose) on the other side. The Rev A B Alexander was the second vicar of Churt from 1869 to 1883. I believe the Bible passed to my grandmother, his youngest sister, on his death, and to Ruth Croucher, her daughter, on her death, and to my father when Ruth downsized from her house to her bungalow. It also contains an attached sheet "John Fullick, a brother of my mother remained unmarried. He could neither read nor write. He was a quiet gentle man. His last fortyfive or fifty years he lived amd worked as a gardener in Betchworth, near Reigate. He died in the early 1940's whilst working. A receipt in his name for an allotment was found enclosed and remains in the following pages. William J Croucher 1973". The receipt is "No. 1/2 A 25/3/1939 Received from Mr Fullick the sum of [blank] Pounds one shillings and seven pence half years allotment". There is also a letter written from King George V Ward - poor spelling and punctuation. I suspect it was written for him by someone else as at the end is an illegible scribble written with a different pencil which could be his mark. It mentions Annie and her two daughters, and also Ruth and Silvia and mentions his mum.

He was not living with his parents in the 1881 census, but I cannot locate him.

In the 1891 census as John Fullise (sic - in the index, Fullick on the original), aged 27 (should have been 30), born in Hedley (sic), Hampshire, single, employed as a gardener and living with William G Horlock (aged 41, born in Stockford, Dorset Head and employed as a carter), his wife Ellen (aged 40 and born in Sherford, Sussex), and their two daughters (Ellen aged 7 and Susan M aged 5, and both born in Betchworth) at Providence Cottage, Betchworth, Surrey.
