In the 1891 census as Charles Fry aged 1, born in Lewes, Sussex, and living with his parents (Hary and Mary J), brother (Arthur), two sisters (Ann and Mary) and a boarder (Minnie Brayshaw aged 5 and born in Lewes) in four rooms at 12 Edward Street, All Saints, Lewes, Sussex.

"Page 85 Baptisms solemnized in the Parish of S John S C Lewes in the County of Sussex in the year One thousand eight hundred and ninety three. [...] 1893 August 6 No. 679 Charles [parents] Harry [a] Carter & Mary Jane Fry [of] 6 Brook St." His brother Arthur Jesse was baptised at the same time in the previous entry No. 678.

His brother was baptised at St John sub Castro, Lewes on 4 November 1894 when they were living at 6 Brook Street.

In the 1901 census as Charles Fry aged 12, born in Lewes, Sussex, and living with his parents (Harry and Mary J), three brothers (Alfred E, Arthur J and Harry), and two sisters (Lucy and Minnie) in four rooms at 6 Brook Street, St John sub Castro, Lewes, Sussex.

His father died in Lewes in 1902.

[No.] 275 June 12th Charles Fry [aged] 21 [a] Bachelor [and] Labourer [of] West Chillington [father] Henry Fry [a] Labourer, [and] Harriett White [aged] 23 [a] Spinster [of] West Chillington [father] Alfred White [a] Carpenter. Married in the Parish Church according to the Rites and Ceremonies of the Established Church [...] in the Presence of us Bernard Hard [and] Daisy White". His wife's sister Minnie Emily married Bernard Hard in the next entry dated 24 July 1909.

His daughter was baptised on 31 Oct 1909 in West Chiltington when he was a labourer living in Pulborough.

His son was born 12 March 1911 in West Chiltington.

In the 1911 census as Charles Fry aged 23, born in Lewes, Sussex, a labourer on farm, and living with his wife (Harriett) and son (Alfred Charles) all boarding with Bernard Hards (aged 26, born in Billingshurst, Sussex, and a traction engine driver), his wife (Minnie Emily aged 22 and born in Wisborough Green, Sussex) and son (Bernard George Hards aged four months and born in West Chiltington, Sussex) in three rooms at Style House, West Chiltington, Pulborough, Sussex. Their wives were sisters. I cannot locate his daughter.

His son was baptised on 9 July 1911 in West Chiltington when he was a labourer living in Nutbourne, Pullborough.

His two sons were born in Petworth in 1913 and 1915, and daughter in Thakeham in 1920.

Entry in Ancestry UK, British Army World War I Service Records, 1914-1920 for Charles Fry, address Byeworth, Petworth, Sussex aged 27, a carman, attested 7 January 1915 at Chichester, height 5ft 5in, girth 36.5in range 2.25in, next of kin Harriett Emma Fry of Byeworth, Petworth, Sussex, wife Harriet White Spinster married West Chillington, Sussex on 12 June 1909, children Minnie Harriett born 5 July 1909 in Thakenham and Alfred Charles born 12 March 1911 in Thakenham, and added later Peter born 17 January 1915 and George born 3 April 1913, joined 11 November 1915 at Woolwich as 68377 Royal Regiment of Artillery, service record largely illegible, but in France from 28 April 1915 to 4 May 1919, regimental number changed to 1119 on 23 May 1916 at Abbeville, discharged 21 April 1919, address Westside Cottage, Pulborough, Sussex, and awarded the 1915 Star, and British and Victory medals on 5 December 1921 when he was living in Balls Green, Billinghurst, Sussex. There is a declaration that his discharge papers were lost by being destroyed by being burnt unaware of what it was by his daughter dated 17 February 1938 when he was living at 190 Oving Road, Chichester.

I cannot locate him in the 1921 census unless he is Catherine Fry born in Lewes, Sussex in 1886, and living with Harriett Fry (wife?), Alfred, George and Peter Fry (sons?), and Annie and Minnie Fry (daughters?) in Billingshurst, Horsham, Sussex.

His daughters were born in Horsham in 1922 and in Thakenham in 1927.

In the 1939 England and Wales Register as Charles Fry born 28 November 1888, married, a labourer - coal and in the National Defence Corp, and living with Harriett E Fry (wife?), and Annie and Edith M Fry (daughters?) at 2 Phillpott Cottages, North Bersted Street, Chichester, Sussex.

Death of Charles Fry in FreeBMD in January-March 1956 aged 66 in Eastbourne (5H 285).
