They went to India before the Second World War (1st Hants regiment, attached Embarkation Staff, Bombay) where his two sons were born, he went to Nagasaki after war. His wife and sons arrived at Southampton on 16 December 1945 and they initially lived at 11 Green Cross Cottages, Churt in 1946 and Crosswater, Churt in 1947. (I assume he was still in the Army). He and the family moved to 8 Green Hanger, Churt in 1948. I sometimes went there to tea after school, my mother having died. He was gardener for Mrs Gladys Ethel Davenport who lived at Gatesbury, Hale House Lane, Churt just down the path from where they lived. His wife would watch out for him coming up the path so he had a cup of tea ready when he got home.
