Entry in Ancestry Hampshire, England, Nonconformist Registers, 1835-1921 for the baptism of Ellen Elizabeth Croucher on 20 November 1898 on Petersfield, Liphook and Haslemere Circuit, parents James and Ellen Croucher of Churt. "[No.] 621 Ellen Elizabeth [parents] James [a] Labourer & Ellen Croucher [of] Churt, Surrey [on] Nov 20. 1878 [at] Churt Chapel". I assume this was Star Hill Chapel built by the artist James Clarke Hook of Silverbeck.

Her brother was born on 28 October 1900, registered in October-December 1900 in Farnham, and baptised on 12 November 1900 at St John the Evangelist, Churt when they were living at The Barracks, Churt. (This was a cottage, now demolished, on the right of the track leading to the Barracks which were a terraced row built below the dam of Barford Upper Mill pond).

In the 1901 Census as Ellen Croucher aged 2 living with her parents (James and Ellen), brother (William) and sister (Emily) at The Barracks, Churt, Frensham, Surrey.

Her brother was born on 4 December 1903, registered in January-March 1904 in Farnham, and baptised on 3 January 1904 at St John the Evangelist, Churt when they were living at The Barracks.

The family lived there until 1905 when they went to live with her grandmother at Keepers/Pond Cottage when her grandfather died. However they were given notice to quit soon afterwards when the owner, Mr Compton of Churt House, died, and then moved to Copse or Coppice Cottage on the Furzehills where they lived for 6 years.

Her brother was born on 4 January 1906, registered in January-March 1906 in Farnham, and baptised on 7 January 1906 at St John the Evangelist, Churt when they were living at Keeper's Cottage (Pond Cottage).

Her sister was born on 27 November 1908, registered in January-March 1909 in Farnham, and baptised on 7 February 1909 at St John the Evangelist, Churt when they were living at Copse or Coppice Cottage, Furze Hills, Churt.

She is believed to have posed as a fisher girl for a painting by Bryan Hook, son of James Clarke Hook of Silverbeck (Oliver Cotton Further Reflections on Churt 2004 p15)

"Page 165 1932 Marriage solemnized at The Parish Church in the Parish of Churt in the County of Surrey. [No.] 209 June 4th 1932 Alfred Benjamin Frank Frampton [aged] 29, [a] Bachelor [and] Sargeant H M Army of Fairfield, Churt, [father] Charles William Frampton, [a] Seaman, [and] Ellen Elizabeth Croucher [aged] 33, [a] Spinster [of] Fairfield, Churt, father James Croucher, [a] Gardener. Married in the Parish Church according to the Rites and Ceremonies of the Established Church after Banns [...] In the presence of us Ruth Croucher [and] Arthur William Frampton."

They lived in India during the Second World War where her two sons were born on 26 January 1938 and 2 March 1939.

Entry in Ancestry UK and Ireland, Incoming Passenger Lists, 1878-1960 for Ellen Frampton aged 47 arrived Southampton on 16 December 1945 on Pasteur, Cunard White Star, from Saigon, Vietnam but boarded at Bombay, destination 11 Green Lane Cottages, Farnham, Surrey accompanied by her sons Keith and Ian.

My father went to meet them at Southampton but missed them by a day due to a mixup in arrival dates.

I used to go there one day a week for my tea after school during the early 1950s.

Her husband died on 26 January 1973 residence 8 Greenhanger, Churt and left effects of £571.

I visited her in hospital at Guildford on 7 July 1991 just after she had had her leg amputated because of an ulcer.

Entry in the Register of Deaths for Ellen Elizabeth Frampton, born 28 October 1898, in SW Surrey (17 1153) in July 1991.

I attended her funeral on 2 August 1991 at St John the Evangelist, Churt, and subsequently the Community Centre.
