Notes

Marriage of Wyllm Fygg and Elyzabeth Frebone in the IGI on 9 October 1569 in Headley, Hampshire. The same information is in Headley Marriages except the suggested spelling is Freebone.

There are three entries in the Winchester Pipe Rolls:

1561 John Figg - Will, no Inventory; C.C. F.40.G.

1561 William Figg paid an unknown amount for a fulling mill from his father John

1569 William Fygge licensed to let his fulling mill which was very ruinous

1588 William Figg, a minor, and son of William, paid an unknown amount for a messuage and 6 acres in Stanford. A note attached states ' William Figg, 1611, Will, no Inventory C.C'.

Fulling mill — John Figg did then hold a messuage with a garden, a grove, and ii closes of land containing in whole vi akers in Stanford , in the east part of the marsh, [...] and one Fulling mill with a course of water upon the marsh.

There is an entry in Headley Burials for William Fygge on 18 November 1586. There is an entry in Headley Wills in 1587 for William Fygg Will+Inv who was buried on 18 November 1586. There are also entries for William, George, Elizabeth and Arthur, but not Henry or Parat who I suspect are not his sons.

Gail Martin has an entry in RootsWeb WorldConnect for William Figg christened 26 September 1545 in Headley, parents Richard Fygg and Joan Valloware (Fallower), his marriage to Elizabeth Frebone (Fribbin) on 9 October 1569 and the six children listed above. However I do not believe Richard and Joan are the correct parents because it does not tie in with the Winchester Pipe Rolls regarding the mills.

I cannot find any information regarding his wife's family - the name does not occur elsewhere in the Headley records except for a Mary Freeborn in buried much later in 1759.

William Figg was my first cousin twelve times removed.
