I cannot find an entry in the 1841 census. but his daughter Frances was born in Islington in about 1842 from the census entries.

On the copy of entry of marriage number 379 for the marriage of Frances Downes and George Payne on 16 July 1861 in the parish church of St James Clerkenwell in Middlesex it states William Downes was her father and was employed as a shoemaker. Mary Downes was a witness.

I think this was just off the A1 north of the Angel near Duncan Street.

Entry in FreeBMD for the death of William Downs in January-March 1862 in Clerkenwell (1b 418) (or was this his son?).

I cannot find an entry in the 1841 census for his mother.
