Entry in Ancestry UK, British Army World War I Service Records, 1914-1920 for William Harold Croucher 21892 SSM RASC, engagement expired 31 March 1920 aged 35 years 8 months with very good character dated 13 July 1921, address 18 Brighton Road, Aldershot, Hants, and applied for enlistment into Section D Army Reserve as a private, his address being given aw 12 Elando Road, Aldershot. He was examnined on 2 February 1904 at Aldershot. He was born in Crondall, Surrey, aged 19 years 3 months, a groom, height 5 ft 6 in, weight 113 lbs, chest 33-35 in, fresh complexion, grey eyes, dark hair, good physical development, no smallpox marks, vacinated twice in left arm in infancy, tattooed WHC on left arm.and joined the Army Service Corps. He qualified as a Rough Rider at Aldershot 19 September 1907. He was in Rochester Hospital for 24 days in 1909. and was mentioned in depatches. He received the 1914 star and clasp and was in the BEF France. He married Emily Eliza Smith (Spinster) on 10 February 1912 at the Parish Church, Plumstead, Kent and had two children William Harold born 7 December 1912 in Romford and Edward James John born 21 January 1916 in Aldershot. Clasp and Roses: Instituted in 1919 (Army Order Number 361 published 16 October 1919) and awarded to those who had operated within range of enemy mobile artillery during the period 5th Aug.-22nd Nov. 1914. When the ribbon bar was worn alone, recipients of the clasp to the medal wore a small silver rosette on the ribbon bar.
