In the 1841 census as William Corps aged 11, born in Surrey, and living with Charles and Sarah (parents?), Charles and George (brothers?) and Sarah (sister?) at Oxted Green, Witley, Surrey. His future first wife was living next door.

His father died in 1842.

In the 1851 census as William Corps aged 23, born in Godalming, Surrey, single, an agricultural labourer, and living with his widowed mother (Sarah), two brothers (Charles and George), and two sisters (Mary and Sarah) at Oxted Green, Witley, Surrey.

His daughter was registered in April-June 1859 in Hambledon and baptised on 22 May 1859 at St John the Evangelist, Milford when they were living in Witley.

In the 1861 census as William Corps aged 31, born in Witley, Surrey, an agricultural labourer and living with his wife (Harriett), two sons (Charles and Edward) and daughter (Jane) at an illegible address (St Johns Bridge?) which I believe is near Wheelerstreet, Witley, Surrey.

His daughter was baptised on 7 September 1862 at St John the Evangelist, Milford when they were living in Witley.

In the 1871 census as William Coops (sic - in the index, Corps on the original) aged 41, born in Witley, Surrey, an agricultural labourer, and living with his wife (Harriett), two sons (Charles and William) and two daughters (Harriett and Jane) at Oxted Green (off A283), Milford, Surrey.

In the 1881 census as William Corpse (sic - on the original), aged 51, born in Godalming, Surrey, married, a coal merchant, and living with his daughter (Jane), a nephew (George Waller (sic - in index, Vallor on the original) aged 2 and born in Witley - son of Harriett Annie so really his grandson) and a lodger (Thomas Bachin aged 29, born in Chiddingfold, unmarried and employed as a general labourer) at Lady Cross, Wetley (sic - in the index, correct on the original), Surrey. Her wife was acting as nurse to her daughter Harriett Annie Voller who was living next door. Lady Cross is near Mousehill.

His wife died in 1887.

In the 1891 census as William Corps aged 60, born in Godalming, Surrey, a gardener and living with his wife (Hy Js Irena (sic - in the index, Tryphena on the original), three daughters (Annie, Jane (Corps in the index, Luff on the original) and Sarah), grandson (Walter Luff), son-in-law (Alfred Luff - really step-son), two daughters-in-law (Harvey and Marion Luff - step-daughters) at Stoughton Road, (just north of the A3), Stoke next Guildford, Surrey.

In the 1901 census as William Corps aged 61, born in Trusley W Godalming, Surrey, a domestic gardener and living with his wife (Tryphena), son (Thomas) and daughter (Annie) in Stoughton Road (just north of the A3), Stoke next Guildford, Surrey (two doors from his daughter Jane and family).

Death of William Corps in FreeBMD in April-June 1909 aged 78 in Guildford (2a 80).

Relationship

William Corps was the husband of Tryphena Chambers Horsley, wife of Thomas Luff, my half first cousin twice removed.
