There is a submitted entry in the IGI for the birth of John Brown in about 1782 in Ferrensby, Farnham, Yorkshire, and of his wife in about 1786 also in Ferrensby, and of two children Sarah Brown in 1808 and George Brown in 1811 both in Ferrensby.
There are entries in the IGI for the christening of Sarah and George in Farnham (1808-1811), but only the fathers name is given, Ann in Arkendale (1813) with both parents names (John and Ruth), and Elizabeth to Jabez in Easingwold (1815-1822) with both parents names. I cannot find an entry for Mary.
In the 1841 census as John Brown aged 55 (rounded down to a muliple of 5), born in Yorkshire, employed as a carrier and farmer, and living with Ruth Brown (wife? aged 60 and born in Yorkshire), Elizabeth, Jabez, and Mary Brown (daughters?), Ann Clemitshaw (married daughter?) and George and William Clemitshaw (grandsons?) at Uppleby, Easingwold, Yorkshire.
His wife died on 9 September 1843 at Easingwold. He informed of the death and made his mark so could not write. It states on the entry of death that he was a carrier and an occupier at Easingwold.
In the 1851 census as James Brown aged 67, born in Scrivin Knaresbro, a widower, formerly employed as a carrier, and a visitor with John and Elizabeth Sadler (who I believe was his daughter), and their two daughters (Elizabeth and Ruth Ann) at Long Lane, Easingwold, Yorkshire.

Owned a watermill at Knaresborough according to Mona Chadwick but I have seen no evidence of this.
There is a submitted entry in the IGI for the birth of Mrs John Brown in Ferrensby, Farnham, Yorkshire in about 1768.
Death of Ruth Brown in FreeBMD in July-September 1843 in Easingwold (24 206).
On a copy of the Entry of Death number 287 in 1843 in Easingwold for Ruth Brown on 9 September 1843 at Easingwold it states she was 64 years old (date of birth is calculated from this), wife of John Brown who was a carrier. She died of a diseased liver. The informant was John Brown, occupier at Easingwold who made his mark. The death was registered on 12 September 1743.
