His daughter was christened on 21 May 1911 at Holy Trinity, Kingsway, Camden, London when he was a signalman living at at Railway Cottages, Cooksbridge.

He had a twin brother, Lawrence, and at least 5 other siblings. From the age of about 17 to 21, he worked as a gardener in Bognor Regis. Refused entry into the army for medical reasons. Became a railway signalman. 1911, Cooksbridge, had Dorothy Georgina Esther Blunden. Had a live-in nurse from the Lewes Nursing Association. 1916, had a son, Lewis George. As a signalman in Beddingham, at Itford crossing, he was hit & killed by a train.

Hamsey is 1 mile SE of Cooksbridge which is 3 miles north of Lewes. Beddingham is 4 miles SE of Lewes. Tillington is 15 miles NE of Chichester. Itford Crossing is on the road (now closed to traffic and part of South Downs Way) between Itford Farm on the A26 and Southease on the C7 to the west.
