On a copy of the registration of birth Number 476 in district of Burnham, Dockham, Norfolk : Birth of William Belton on 5 October 1843 at South Creeke, father Henry Belton employed as a labourer, mother Rhoda Belton nee Tuck. The informant was W Tuck occupier at South Creeke and was registered on 4 November 1843. I assume this was William Tuck, Rhoda's brother.

In the 1851 census as William Belton aged 9, born in East Rudham, Norfolk, employed in field work, and living with his father (Benjamin), mother (Ellen), brother (John) and sister (Mary) in East Rudham, Norfolk. Note that Benjamin and Ellen did not marry until 1849 and Benjamin's first wife died in 1832. I believe Henry Belton was his real father, but he was brought up from a very early age by his grandparents Benjamin and Ellen Belton.

In the 1861 census as William Belton, aged 13 in the index, 18 on the original, born in East Rudham, Norfolk, single, employed as an agricultural labourer, and boarding with Thomas Mitchel (aged 37, born in Syderstone, Norfolk and employed as an agricultural labourer), his wife Ann (aged 27 and born in Syderstone) and another boarder Richard Emmerson (aged 15, born in East Rudham and employed as an agricultural labourer) at Cottage Street, Syderstone, Norfolk.

In the 1891 census as William Belton aged 47, born in East Rudham, Norfolk, employed as a coal miner, and living with his wife (Susannah), two sons (Benjamin and William) and four daughters (Eva, Flory, Lilly and Wilda (sic) M ) at New Brimington, Chesterfield, Derbyshire.

On Marriage Certificate dated 29 October 1902 between George William Henry Stubbs and Florrie Belton, William Belton is her father and is employed as a miner.

In the 1911 census as William Belton aged 67, born in East Rudham, Norfolk, a retired coal miner with no occupation, and living with his wife (Susannah), son (Benjamin), and two daughters (Hilda May and Lily) in five rooms in Brimington, Chesterfield, Derbyshire.

His wife died in 1912.

Entry in FreeBMD for the death of William Belton in January-March 1918 aged 74 in Chesterfield (7b 835).

On a certified copy of the Entry of Death No. 82 in 1918 in Chesterfield it states that William Belton died on 14 January 1918 at 35 Queen Street, Brimington RD. He was 74 years old and formerly a coal miner. He died of influenza (I assume Spainish 'Flu) after 7 days, pulmonary congestion after 2 days and a heart failure after 1 day. There was no pm. The informant was his daughter HM Belton who was present at his death, and resided at 35 Queen Street. It was registered in Chesterfield on 15 January.

There are two entries in Ancestry Public Member Trees for William Belton born on 5 October 1843 in South Creake, Norfolk, parents Henry Belton and Rhoda Tuck, and his death in Chesterfield, Derbyshire in 1918. John Eastgate has an entry for his birth in 1844 in East Rudham, Norfolk, parents Benjamin Belton and Ellen Simmons, his wife Susanna and six children (not Minnie or Willis Edgar), and his death in Chesterfield, Derbyshire in March 1918. There are four other entries with the same parents, but his birth in 1842.

He was a miner at the Staveley Pitt Iron and Coal Company and also a railway porter.

East Rudham is 5 miles south of South Creake, and both are 5 miles west/northwest of Fakenham.
