In the 1861 census as Daniel Barber aged 8, born in Haslemere, Surrey, and living with his parents (William and Harriett), brother (William) and sister (Harriett) in Shottermill, Frensham, Surrey.

His father died soon after the census.

In the 1871 census as Daniel Barber aged 18, born in Haslemere, Surrey, single, a bricklayer, and living with his widowed mother (Harriett), brother (William), married sister (Harriett Baker), relative (Andrew Baker - brother-in-law), nephew (Edward Baker), and neice (Kate Baker)in Lion's Green, Shottermill, Surrey.

Daniel's "signature" is a bit of a mess partially crossed out for his first name and his surname written by someone else (curate?).
