Notes

Birth of John Nicholas Baker in FreeBMD in April-June 1859 in Farnham (2a 80? - the handwritten original is illegible).

Christening of of John Nicholas Baker in the IGI on 8 July 1860 in Frensham, Surrey, mother Hannah Baker.

In the 1861 census as John Baker aged 1, born in Frencham, Surrey and the granddaughter in the index, but male and the grandson on the original of James Tarby (sic in the index, Larby on the original, aged 54, born in Ealsted, Surrey and an agricultural labourer) and his wife (Sarah aged 57 and born in Frencham, Surrey) - I can find no relationship between these Larbys and the Bakers, and the couple did not marry until 1847 and as far as I can tell had no children.

His mother married Arthur Chuter in Farnham in April-June 1862.

In the 1871 census as John Chuter aged 11, born in Frensham, Surrey, and living with his (step)father (Arthur Chuter), mother (Hannah), two (half)sisters (Elizabeth and Kate), and a domestic servant (sister in the index) (Ann Moss aged 11, and born in Headley, Hampshire) at the Crossways Public House, Churt, Frensham, Surrey.

In the 1881 census as John Baker aged 22, born in Surrey, single, a glazier, and lodging at 58 Flower and Dean St, Christ Church, Surrey (there are some 65 people living at this address).

Marriage of John Nicholas Baker and Helen Kingdon/kingeon in FreeBMD (there are two entries for her in FreeBMD but only one - Kingdon - on the typed original) in January-March 1890 in Farnham (2a 129).

In the 1891 census as John Nicholas Baker aged 31, born in Churt, Surrey, a publican and carpenter neither an employer or employed, deaf, and living with his wife (Helen), son (Herbert John), and a servant (Alice Trigg aged 14 and born in Headley, Hampshire) at Crossways Inn, Churt, Frensham, Surrey.

Eugene was born in Churt in 1892, but Albert was born in Upton Park, Essex in 1897 and the family moved to East Ham before 1899 from the birth of Isabel.

In the 1901 census as John N Baker aged 41, born in Churt, Faversham (Frensham), Surrey, a builder on his own account, and living with his wife (Helen), four sons (Albert E, Eugene W, Herbert J and John N) and daughter (Isabel V) at 200 Wakefield Street, East Ham, Essex.

In the 1911 census as John Nicholas Baker aged 51, and living with his wife (Helen), three sons (Albert Edward, Herbert John, and John Nicholas) and daughter (Isabel Vera) in West Ham, Essex.

Death of John N Baker in FreeBMD in October-December 1928 aged 69 in W Ham (4a 147).

W Arnold has an entry in Ancestry for John Chuter born about 1860 in Frensham , mother Hannah Baker. Four other entries add his father as Arthur Chuter relying on the 1871 census for this.

Betty Baker, his granddaughter, has sent the date of birth and marriage location in an email, adding there is no father on the birth certificate and his father is given as John Baker, a farmer, on his marriage certificate.
