Notes

Birth of William Adams in FreeBMD in April-June 1862 in Loddon (4b 208) which included Chedgrave.

His mother died 1862-1866 and his father married Phoebe Ward in 1866.

In the 1871 census as William Adams aged 9, born in Chedgrave, and living with his father (Amos), (step)mother (Phoebe) and brother (Alfred John) in Adelaide Street, Heigham, Norfolk. (Adelaide St is off the A1074 1 mile NW of Norwich).

His father died after 1871.

In the 1881 census as William Adams, aged 18, born in Chedgrave, employed a carpenter, and living with his brother (Alfred John), sister-in-law (Christiana), nephew (Thomas Alfd), and two neices (Alice Mary A and Elley Louisa) at 34 Northumberland St, Heigham, Norfolk.

Marriage of William Adams and Ada Sutton in FreeBMD in April-June 1883 in Mitford (4b 445).

From the births of the children the family lived first in Norwich, but Nellie was born in Nottingham in 1886, and soon after the family moved to Deptford.

In the 1891 census as William Adams aged 28, born in Loddon, Norfolk, employed as a wood sawyer, and living with his wife (Ada), two sons (Reginald and Sidney), and two daughters (Alice and Nellie) in four rooms at 15 Sharratt St, St Paul Deptford, Greenwich (off Ilderton Road between A2 and A2208). Another family lived in three rooms at the same address. I assume Sidney refers to Wlliam Sydney.

Although Reginald and Alfred were born in Deptford, Hilda's birth appears to have been registered in Camberwell. The family must have moved to Bromley after 1898.

In the 1901 census as William Adams aged 38, born in Loddon, employed as an engineer at the saw mills (sawyer), and living with his wife (Ada), three sons (Alfred S, Kesthald J (Reginald G) and Williams (William S)), and three daughters (Alice M, Hilda G and Nellie M) at 32 Bruce Road, Bromley, London (off B140 Devons Road).

Chedgrave is 11 miles SE of Norwich just east of the A146. Mitford is the registration area to the west or northwest of Norwich.
