In the 1861 census as Stephen Marden aged 2 months, born in Frensham, Surrey, and living with his parents (William and Charlotte), brother (James) and two sisters (Elizebeth and Mary) in Churt, Frensham, Surrey. The census was held on 7 April so he was born about 7 February.

In the 1871 census as Stephen Marden aged 10, born in Churton (sic in the index, Churt on the original), Surrey and living with his parents (William and Charlotta Marshall (sic - in the index, correct on the original)), brother (James Marshall), and two sisters (Elizabeth Marden and Mary Marshall), in Churt, Frensham, Surrey. This was at Dutton? Hill? between Broomfield Cottage and Red Hearne.

Entry in FreeBMD for the marriage of Stephen Marden and Minie Whiten (Whiton) Hughes in July-September 1880 in Farnham (2a 149).

In the 1881 census as Stephen Marden aged 26 in the index, 20 on the original, born in Frensham, a carpenter, and living with his wife (Minnie) at Red Hearne, Churt, Frensham, Surrey.

All four children were born in Churt.

In the 1891 census as Stephen Marden aged 30, born in Frensham, a carpenter and joiner, and living with his wife (Mennie), two sons (Frank and George), two daughters (Ada and Maud), and unmarried mother-in-law (Eliza Baker) in four rooms in Churt, Frensham, Surrey (this was apparently shared with another family who apparently shared the same four rooms, and was next door to the Pride of the Valley on Hindhead Road).

In the 1901 census as Stephen Marden aged 40, place of birth not known, employed as a carpenter, and living with his wife (Minnie), son (Frank) and two daughters (Ada and Maud), the family lodging with Augustus H Goaderd (aged 32, born in Yately, Hants and employed as a carpenter), his wife (Ellen aged 39 and born in Odiham, Hants), their four sons (Albert F aged 6 and born in Sunninghill, Berkshire, Arthur L aged 11 and born in Odiham, Hampshire, Henry E aged 9 and born in Winkfield, Berkshire, and John D aged 5 and born in Ascot, Berkshire) and two daughters (Dorothy A aged 11 and born in Hartley Row, Hampshire and Sissy M aged 9 months and born in Crondall) in four rooms (this appears to be for both families!) in Heath Lane, Crondall, Hampshire.

Relationship

Stephen Marden was my second cousin twice removed.
