Christening of George Marden in the IGI on 15 November 1798 in Bramshot, Hampshire, parents George and Elizabeth Marden.
Marriage of George Marden and Elizabeth Hill in the IGI on 22 August 1825 at Saint Marys, Portsea, Hampshire.
In the West Surrey Family History Society Frensham Baptisms the children's parents are stated to be George (a carpenter) and Elizabeth Marden. I believe all the children up to and including James were born in Churt. After then the children were born in Headley, but christened at Frensham.
I believe the family moved from Frensham (Churt) to the White Horse, Headley, following the death of his mother in law Sarah Wilsdon [Hall] on 17 September 1837 at the White Horse (I believe she ran the pub up to this date).
In the 1841 census as George Marder (sic - in the index, Marden on the orginal) aged 35 (rounded down to a multiple of 5), not born in Hampshire, a publican and living with Elizabeth (wife?), Frances, George, James, Mary, Sarah and Stephen (children?), James Hall (halfbrother of his wife?), Elizabeth Baker (daughter of Stephen and Mary?), William Cempter, Stephen Harding, William Larby (son of Henry and Maria?), William and Mary Lawrence, John Mansell and Richard Saunders in Headley, Hampshire. The property is unnamed but follows on from Simmondstone so I assume it was the White Horse, now the Frensham Pond Hotel. (A note attached to the Headley census states "Licensed Victualer Hants Bramshott White Horse, been in family since before 1800 - WHL IV.647 ")
In the 1851 census as George Marden aged 58 in the index, 52 on the original, born in Bramshaw (Bramshott on the original), Hampshire, and living with his wife (Elizabeth), two sons (Richard and Stephen), and five daughters (Catherine, Elizabeth, Frances, Mary and Matilda) at Frensham Pond, Headley, Hampshire (this was later the White Horse and Frensham Pond Hotel).
In the 1855 Post Office Directory of Headley George Marden is given as living at the White Horse.
In the 1857 Craven & Co.’s Commercial Directory of Hampshire George Marden is the victualler at the White Horse.
In William White's 1859 History, Gazetteer and Directory of Hampshire and The Isle of Wight Geo Martn (sic) is living at the White Horse.
In the 1861 census as George Marden aged 60, born in Bramshott, Hampshire, a licence victualer and living with his wife (Elizabeth), two sons (Richard and Stephen), three daughters (Amelia, Elizabeth and Matilda), her aunt (Sarah Hall), and a lodger (Henry Collins aged 59, born in Kinsham in the index, Frensham on the original, Surrey and employed as a destroyer of vermin) at Frensham Pond House, Headley.
In the 1865 Post Office Directory of Headley George Marden is given as living at the White Horse.
Death of George Marden in FreeBMD in July-September 1869 aged 70 in Alton (2c 97).
Entry in the Frensham Bishops Trancripts for the burial of George Marden of Headley on 3 July 1869 aged 70.
In the 1871 Mercer and Crocker’s Hampshire Directory George Marden is given as living at the White Horse.
George Marden was the husband of my second great grandaunt, Elizabeth Hall.
